Man, the Definition of Labor Is…

Pretty much everything I’ve seen here! It’s a ‘modern’ city in a developing country & the signs are everywhere. I saw a motorcyclist with about 12 tires packed on the back while driving down the highway. Yes. Twelve tires piled on the back of a motorcycle. I have no idea how he rigged them onto his bike but he did & was flying!

                                                                          An Absurd Sign

It’s a wonder I could stop laughing at the preposterousness of a sign saying ‘STICK TO YOUR LANE!’ Wow. Don’t think anyone’s reading it. That’s like expecting a dog NOT to pee on a fire hydrant. Why there are even lines for lanes is beyond me. & OHMYGAWD, I saw someone taking driving lessons! They honked down the street, why? Because that’s what you do here. They honked at the intersection. Why? Because that’s what you do here. They honked at a paper bag on the next street. Why? Why? WHY???!!!!

Oh gees, I could go on & I pretty much have LOL! Oh, one last thing. The electricity cuts off. Often. Cuts off Sunday morning when I planned to sleep in late. 7:10 AM the sound of electricity disconnecting catapults me from a deep sleep. That’s another thing. I haven’t slept well here at all. The beds are hard & this one is pretty small so there’s this thought in the back of my head of ending up on the marble floor. & they don’t have wood floors here for the dancers which is pretty much murder because we need the give of a sprung wood floor for jumps & all the other madly insane things we do. These floors at the studios I teach in are marble or linoleum. YUM-MY! Just murder on all the joints & muscles. So it’s no wonder I’m awaken from another unusually deep sleep by the searing, throbbing pain in my feet. Just screaming. Calling me all sorts of names with no apology accepted. Oh yeah, the electricity. Cuts off constantly. The only other place I’ve been that did that was the Dominican Republic. & it’s amazing because it happens so frequently, no one exclaims or says anything. Just keeps on doing what they’re doing. So if it cuts off during class which it has, I just keep on teaching. But when it cut off this morning & then again at 11:22 as I was about to eat I howled at the sun cause it was too early to howl at the moon.
